Some jobs carry more weight than others. On 31 March we provided full audio, video and live broadcast support for the Covid-19 Evaluation Panel’s health-focused roundtable, held in the Palatine Room at the National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks — a conversation that went out live to the nation.
Ireland’s Covid-19 Evaluation Panel is an independent, non-statutory evaluation chaired by Professor Anne Scott. Its mission is a clear one: learn the lessons of Ireland’s pandemic response, understand lived experiences, and help build a more prepared future. The roundtable brought some of the world’s leading public-health voices to one table, including Prof David Heymann, Prof Mark Woolhouse, Dr Mike Ryan, Prof Ivan Perry, Prof Mary Codd and Prof Anthony Staines.

The discussion was broadcast nationally and featured on RTÉ News. A hybrid event like this has two audiences at once: the panel and guests in the room, and everyone following live at home. Both deserve to see and hear everything clearly — so cameras, sound, lighting and cabling all worked quietly around a room full of history, leaving the conversation to take centre stage.
Access built in, not bolted on
When a discussion helps shape national policy, everyone should be able to follow it. That’s why sign language interpretation sat inside the broadcast picture from the start, and why the stream was free to watch wherever people were. Accessibility works best when it’s part of the production plan, not an afterthought.
